Glad to see them being to good use. During the big firemans strike in the late 1970s I was one of a group who were trained in breathing appratus at Roysth.

Before we could be deployed operationally, the firemen said that if we used BA then they would boycot it when they got back.

I went back the Matelo at Pitreavie castle and took no further part in strike.

I remember seeing them parked around town during the strike in the 70s too. And the firemen with their placards etc outside the stations - in the old days when one could have proper pickets.

It won't get better if you picket.

It mentions that the Green Goddesses were obsolete when sold off. Well, they might have been slower than modern day fire trucks but they have an awesome pump on them. Many are in preservation now and running around the UK on road rallies etc. I think the editor of the old truck magazine I get from the UK even bought one!

I honestly think they still would have been of some use to the UK. Their pumping abilities would have been very useful of late given the flooding. The 4WD Commers that were to accompany a column of Goddesses in the case of an emergency were good trucks but being support vehicles, they haven't been as useful or as popular. That said, fortunately there's a few of them getting around to shows etc.

    Oh, and they're Bedfords!!!! Legendary.

Some GGs about half way down on the old truck site I contribute pics to:
