I was just watching a documentary on a new US ship, USS New York, which was purposely constructed in part from a large quantity of steel wreckage from the World Trade Centre collapse.
The name has good pedigree - the previous USS New York was a battleship that saw service in both WW1 & WW2, taking part in Atlantic convoys and Torch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_New_York_(BB-34)
That's odd - it seems to work for me. But trying the following link - it lists all teh ships that were named USS New York. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_New_York The one I mentioned above was the fifth to be so named
I think other sister ships of that class have been named after where the other aircraft crashed on Sept 11.
