Not really, I'd been putting some photos up on DA of cemeteries I've taken, one of which was filled with spanish flu victims. And as such I now need to find a ww1 question. Hmm. "The Manchester Regiment will defend Manchester Hill to the Last" Who said it? I know its dreadfully easy but i can't think of something more difficult right now.
easy?! No idea, but something about the 16th battallion springs to mind, as in someone attached to it?
Just as an aside Kitty ... Robert Bonner wrote a book ..... Wilfrith Elstob, VC, DSO, MC: Manchester Regiment - "Here We Fight, Here We Die" (Robert Bonner, 1998) And here he is on Find a Grave !! http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=9467778 Annie
Wel done annie, easy as I said. Siddington Church is my family church, and Elstob's father was vicar at the time of his death. Your turn.
I'll ask you a question Kitty ... 'cos I don't know the answer ..... ! Where does that name originate from ? doesn't sound like Lancashire to me !! Wilfrith Elstob
doesn't sound Cheshire either. There was a St Wiflfrith, and as his father was a Vicar it may be that. This is Siddington Church where his memorial is click the last sentence to get the link
Made by Raymond Rush, lives in church farm next door and looks after the church so its one of the last in the area you can get into during the day. Very proficient at corn dollies, decorates the church at harvest time. Anyway we digress, a question!
OK ! ... here you go ! In what country did the khaki dye come from for the British uniforms in 1914 ?
To be honest ... you maybe right ! I heard it was Germany !! but then I was told India !! I'll have to look into that ... I'd forgotten I didn't know the real answer !!
