In Philadelphia, the historic landmark, Sparks Shot Tower, located at Front & Carpenter Streets was actually commissioned during the War of 1812 & the Civil War to produce shot pellets. I have lived here my entire life and did not know the history of this building until I did research for my novel about Irish immigrants coming to the US in 1820. For any of you in the Philadelphia area, you might find some of the history interesting.
