This is one of the reasons that I haven't been around much lately!

She is not really a dog, just an ultra efficient food processing machine, finding the most obscure places after she has fooled you in the garden! The whole litter was abandoned so we are not really sure how old she is but the vet thinks about 8 weeks.

We are like two indulgent parents, boring everyone silly but it is so nice to have a dog in the house again.

    Pets Corner ?

    Hi John,

Picture herewith of my personal Food Processing Machine.

Must admit I'm not too fond of the produced end product !

If you can find "The Dog Whisperer" on tele, Nat. Geo. Wild or any of the other stations he's on, you'll be hooked.:photo:

    Cheers

    Hi John,
I didn't see your reply, changing picture type, no the cannon isn't loaded, tried twice but she's too clever, jumps to one side as soon as I get a match near the cannon.

The cannon itself is a Geoge III captains sample, I have since placed it on an model artillery carriage, of the period.

    Cheers
    Keith

Keith we are Dog Whisperer fans too! Wish I had known some of that stuff with other dogs that we have had. Mimi looks beautiful. That coat must take you ages to groom.

Our little lady attended her first socialisation class tonight (I can hear my Dad laughing in his grave!!). She was very coy and timid with the other two male puppies there. She adopted the calm submissive bit (otherwise known as being a little tart!) until one upset her - no messing straight for the throat she had the much bigger dog pinned to the floor! She then flirted outrageously with the other again. My husband thought that she demonstrated normal female characteristics (Mmmm can't decide whether to pin him to the floor too!).

I know this thread is about dogs but I'm about to commit heresy as usual.

In the "I'd like to know more about...." thread I forgot to mention one important part of my life; two more females that I share the house with.

Pepper is a dark tortoiseshell, nearly 18 years old now. We've had her since she was two and a half - i.e. longer than we've had the children. She's a bit slower than she was; its a couple of years since she killed anything (or maybe she just doesn't bring stuff in anymore).

Pebbles is a chinchilla, she is my mother-in-law's cat. I mentioned that we bought a house with my mother-in-law four years ago - it was difficult for me for a while, but the cats found it quite traumatic having their territory re-defined and challenged. It was Total War for at least two years, only mitigated by Pebbles spending most of the time in m-in-l's bedroom. These days, an uneasy ceasefire seems to be in place, punctuated by a lot of posturing and the occassional border incident. Originally Pepper was the dominant one, but as she is getting old and infirm, Pebbles is no longer intimidated.

This of course means that I am the only male in a house of seven females of various species. You'd think I would be the alpha male, but it doesn't seem to work that way. :help: No wonder I escape into macho hobbies such as military history!

Well you and I have had a giggle over this!

    From Wikipedia................

Sooty is a British glove puppet and TV character popular in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and other countries. The children's television show which bears the same name and has featured the character since the 1950s was, according to the Guinness Book of Records, the longest-running children's programme in the UK. He was 60 years old on 19th July 2008; as this was close to Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday, Sooty sent him a birthday message as well.[1]

Sooty was originally devised by Harry Corbett (nephew of fish and chip shop chain owner Harry Ramsden), who bought the puppet as a present for his son, Matthew Corbett, from a stall when he was on holiday in Blackpool in 1948. Sooty, a small yellow bear with black ears, who was mute to the audience but could communicate with Harry by apparently whispering in his ear, was featured on BBC TV from 1952. The original bear was completely yellow, and Harry covered his ears and nose with soot so that he would show up better on black and white television - hence the puppet's name. He would later be joined by other puppet characters Sweep (a dog which communicated by a saxophone reed type squeak), Soo (a shy and sweetly spoken panda), Kipper (a cat), Butch (another dog who occasionally played the part of a villain), Ramsbottom (a snake), 'Enry the Robot (a robot), Cousin Scampi (another bear), Miki (another cat - this time, novelly, Brazilian) and Maggie Mouse (a mouse). Following Harry Corbett's retirement, Sooty was operated by his son Matthew, and enjoyed a new wave of popularity.

Sooty's personality fluctuated between kindness, cheekiness, and downright naughtiness, very often misinterpreting things said or suggested by Harry, Matthew or Soo (possibly intentionally). He played the xylophone and kept a wand with which he performed magic. This was accompanied by the catchphrase "Izzy wizzy, let's get busy!" His water pistol also became an icon - Matthew usually on the end of a soaking, although even royalty have fallen foul of the water. Matthew carried on Harry's tradition of ending every show with the line "Bye bye everybody, bye bye", and in Matthew's final ever episode, his final scene was a collection of him saying the immortal words from the preceding years.

In the late nineties, Matthew Corbett retired, marking the end of Sooty and Co. (based around the idea of the Sooty gang running a shop that "sells almost everything") and essentially gifted Sooty to then co-star Richard Cadell, who presented the show through another five series, at first under the name Sooty Heights, then under the name, Sooty, both set at a hotel. He was joined in these by two female co-hosts, starting with Liana Bridges from 1999-2000 who worked in Sooty and Co. in the same period he did, and then Vicki Lee Taylor from 2001-2003, who had previously worked on The Queen's Nose.

Sooty is frequently shown on the CITV Channel in the UK, usually weekdays at 3pm.

In June 2008, it was announced that Richard Cadell had bought the rights to Sooty, having been put up for sale by HIT Entertainment in October 2007. Plans for three new TV show formats are underway, with a reworking of one of Matthew Corbett's stage shows due to tour early next year.[2]

Sooty also had a one-off animated cartoon series in the mid-'90s titled Sooty's Amazing Adventures.[3] It featured Sooty, Sweep, Soo & Little Cousin Scampi living in an old theatre by the coast. It was produced by Cosgrove Hall Films (the producers of Count Duckula and DangerMouse); they gave Sweep & Scampi actual voices and kept Sooty the same, having to nod his head to say "yes" or "no" or miming what his ideas are.
