I have been to a number of War of 1812 battlefields including Queenston Heights, Chippewa, Lundy's Lane, Fort George, Fort Erie, Fort McHenry, Chalmette, Fort Meigs, Fort Stephenson, Lake Erie and Mackinac Island. Hard to pick a favorite, but would say it's a tie between Chalmette and Queenston Heights. Chalmette is fairly well preserved, and there is a sense of tragedy akin to that of the Stone Wall at Fredericksburg. Queenston Heights is well preserved, albeit in the form of a English garden. Its location on the Niagara Escarpment overlooking the Niagara Gorge, the near success of the bumbling American expedition, and the death of Isaac Brock just make it stand out above the rest of the Niagara Frontier battles.
