    Hi All,

I was asked to see if there was any information about the YMS-377 history, service records, events etc.

Does anyone have any info on that at all?

June 17 - An Allied task force under Rear Admiral T.H. Troubridge, RN, lands French troops on the island of Elba off of Italy. The motor minesweeper YMS-377 is damaged by a mine in the Normandy area. The escort carrier USS Fanshaw Bay (CVE-70) is damaged by a horizontal bomber and LST 84 is accidentally damaged by US naval gunfire, both in the Marianas. The Japanese submarine RO-117 is sunk by naval land-based aircraft (VB-109) from Eniwetok.

Motor minesweeper YMS-377, by mine, Normandy area,
    49 d. 29' N., 01 d. 08' W.

Foreign correspondent Bernard " B.J." McQuaid was on it on or around D-Day and wrote a letter entitled "MINESWEEPERS "SILENT HEROES" of D-Day PUSH WRITER BOARDS CRAFT, FINDS IT HAS MANY JOBS--ALL DANGEROUS By B. J. McQuaid." (If anyone has any resources on that letter I would appreciate it too) Would have been sent to Chicago Daily News and to the Binghamton press.

    Thanks!
