I am researching my paternal grandad, Thomas Arthur Gilman, born 1900. I believe he would have been conscripted as soon as he was 18 and that he served in the west riding regiment, his number was 41998.
In 1921 he enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters, discharged being in the 6th battalion Sherwoods TA in 1924. I am keen first of all to learn what would have happened to him upon conscription to the west riding regiment, where he went for training, his battalion number etc. In the Sherwoods he was a Waggoner by trade. What would this entail?
