After President Lincoln (one of the greatest presidents ever in my opinion) was elected, South Carolina receded and as a result their was the start of the civil war. I was wondering do you guys think the civil war was necessary?

It certainly was a bloody time in the history of the United States. In my opinion they couldn't of stopped the radical southern states, however they should of tried to work more with the in between states and give them what they want. My reason for believing that is if the south didn't have Virginia and another state or two I think their military power would of been significantly decreased and as a result the war could of gone by a lot quicker with significantly less blood shed.

I think it was necessary. I think if they tried to give the other states what they wanted, they would just keep wanting more. I don't think anyone would have ever been happy.
