    Then be afraid.

    25 million records lost

I've had a scan through the rest of the forum, can't find this story. I know a few of you on here have children under 16, so good luck.

Does anyone feel so confident about ID cards now?

I have NEVER felt safe about ID cards, and them losing that database doesn't surprise.

They can't even stop the abuse of the Blue Disabled badge, so how do they expect to stop terrorism?

    Physically Kitty, but not mentally!

Is it fair to say the UK is getting a bit nanny-stateish? That's my biggest worry if the opposition gets in this weekend. They haven't branded themselves as a "new" labor but they're distancing themsleves from the unions etc. I can remember when the UK got a New Labour...

If Labor gets in, it will be the first time in Australia that Labor have controlled the Federal and all state governments.

Nobody to keep them honest ..........be afraid, be very afraid!

We have two children; at present all I can do is watch our bank account and try not to worry. I wonder if its worth changing bank accounts?

The people most at risk will be those who do internet banking, and those who've used their children's names as passwords. Fortunately we haven't done either of those things, for that very reason. Not that there's much in our bank account to nick...

I'm not sure that changing your bank account will achieve anything. If there is an ulterior reason for these discs not turning up, it will be to sell the details on to get new passports, credit cards and the like. There isn't a great deal that you can do except what you are and notify the relevant body if anything looks suspicious.

I did have to smile at one spokesperson's pathetic attempt to re-assure by saying that the files were password protected - oh so that's ok then!

It is just possible that the government here could stay by a seat. The socialist enemy have to get 16 seats and W.A is the difficult one because everyone over here is making a fortune. Bulldozer drivers and tradesmaen all with two story houses with swimming pools and driving V8 Landcruisers and boats. Who needs Labor?
Labor must get two seats in W.A to get in. Hang on everyone. There is still hope.

If his nose is "Ruddy" on Saturday night, it will be one of the best days of my life.

You never can tell though. Jeff Kennett's Liberal Party came into power in Victoria with a $40 billion Labor debt and a AA- rating. He extinguished the debt, got back to a AAA+ rating and the voters got rid of him for the Labor party........Go figure!

Just like Churchill in 1945 you might say!

Everyone thinks noone else will vote for Labour so its safe for them to do so.

And I apologise profusely that it was my generation that voted Labour in in 1997. I did warn them....

If you are worried bout your bank account, or just want to be sure, go into your bank when it is quiet, explain why, then close your accounts, and reopen new ones with them with new numbers etc. be a damned nuisance though.

Any idea what sort of disks these were? Surely you can't get 25 million entries on two CD-Rs, or even DVD-Rs?

Depends upon the format of the raw data. Simple numeric alpha-numeric formatless coding takes up minimal space. Even standard dual layered DVDs can carry just over 8 gigs.

So 16 or 17 gigs should be sufficient space for the data.

    Mine are 4 and 12.
But I only use that account for Child Benifit.

So thankfully they won't get their hands on my million's lol
