I am looking for a good overview of the trench clubs used by both sides (Allies and Central Powers). I realize many of them were handmade, so the variety is going to vary quite a bit. Any details and pictures would be great. Thanks.
Trench clubs varied from a 2x4 to old maces or morning stars. There were many forms of brass knuckles and knives used as well. Many were homemade and were unique but still served the same purpose. There is a decent article at https://canadaatwarblog.wordpress.c...ter-combat-used-during-the-first-world-war-2/ that covers the topic. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the link. Those pictures are fascinating. Not to mention a reminder of how brutal trench warfare was.
Yeah thats for sure. The close quarters engagements were brutal and for life and death. Night raids on trenches were where these clubs were used the most as silent killer so they would not warn the rest of the enemy trench that something was going on.
