10th December 1941. The battleship HMS Prince of Wales and the battlecruiser HMS Repulse were sunk by Japanese torpedo bombers off the coast of Malaya. The first time that capital ships, fully functional and able to defend themselves had been sunk soley by aircraft whilst at sea and able to manouvere. This is the day the Battleship lost it's crown and ceased to be the main weapon of naval warfare.

aghart some would say that it was a sad day indeed, just as the day that artillery replaced the dominance of the cavalry.

It was today, December 11th, in the year 1941, that Nazi Germany declared war on the United States. Italy followed along with her Axis partner. The decision didn't end well for either. ;)
