My 5th great-grandfather served as a private in the South Carolina militia during the American Revolution. I know he served with Roebuck's Regiment of Spartan Brigade, 3rd Battalion. I found a list of the men who served with him, and I know approximately the dates he served. I wasn't expecting to find nearly that much information, and I am still digging through online resources. I would like to know if any of the other forum members had family members who served in militia units (as opposed to the regular army) and if you have had any luck in tracing their Revolutionary War service. My ancestor parlayed his Revolutionary war record into 160 acres of land in north Arkansas, and ended up helping to settle one of the first counties in that state (Lawrence County).
