    Hello Annie
Thanks for this thread re Lusitania. both websites you supplied was good reading. As it turns out that on
this Sunday night there is a documentary on the sinking of the Lusitania on TV. I will now be able to watch it with interest.

    Hello Annie
Watch the show last night and found it lacked in telling the full story. It did highlight how the navy brass tried to setup Captain Turner to take the fall for its sinking

I don't think they have enough time to go into the full story John in those programs ! .... but it gives you a rough idea - then if you want to look into it yourself - you can !

I felt that Captain Turner was a scapegoat ... but then I could be biased - as he's from Liverpool !!

Seriously !..... I don't think he was to blame !

A young 17 year old sailor named Henry Grew was being used at the docks to help take the bodies from the Lusitania to the various morgue's that had been set up. This young sailor was from the HMS Vanguard and this ship was later to be classed by sailors as a lucky ship. At 10:00 on 9 July 1917, Grew had to pack his gear and report to HMS Pembrose for duty. At 1400 the Vanguard blew up killing over 800 sailors. So much for the lucky ship

Oh boy ! .... the stories John .... sometimes hard to believe aren't they ?

.... sailors are very superstitious ..... but good for young Henry ... he was able to get away !

Funnily enough I obtained some old photographs of various ships today and one of them was of the ill-fated Lusitania which I reproduce for you here...
