    Son of Louisa Richards, of Rokewood Junction, Victoria, Australia, and the late William Richards.

    As a soldier in the Australian Imperial Force, Percy belonged to a number of different units, each proportionally larger in size than the next. First and foremost, he was a member of F Company, 39 Battalion (between 700 and 800 men).
