Operation Bernhard

  1. The Nazis sometimes had other plans than total decimation of "substandard people". In operation Bernhard they used highly skilled engravers, acquired the proper paper, and cracked codes to get proper serial numbers from Britain. They produced almost 9 million notes, worth almost 135 million pounds. They had hoped to flood the Britain market, and crash their financial systems. The odd thing about it is that they did not get all that much of their work into British circulation themselves, but instead paid some of their own people with the fake currency. When the Germans were defeated, people in the Jewish underground also put them into circulation. The problem was still being sorted out within Britain in the mid-1960's. What do you think of this plan? Was it successful or a failure?
