I'm doing a research paper on the role played by Missouri during the Civil War. I never realized that there were over 1200 encounters in that state. Not all were major battles, of course, but that's still far more activity than I'd realized. Only Virginia and Tennessee had more engagements than Missouri. This will be a much bigger paper than I had realized when I chose the topic.
