The Union had a army twice the size of the Confederates during the war. However, the Unions didn't do twice as good as the confederates in my opinion. In fact the war was a lot closer than I thought it would be for 2:1 odds like that. What effect do you guys think that had? If their armies were equal size what difference do you guys think it would have made.
