I'll be out of touch and in Gettysburg for the next few days. My focus this time will be on the field hospitals and gathering all the information I can on them. So many homes and even barns were turned into Civil War hospitals those first three days of July in 1863. The number of amputations is astounding... and without clean instruments. I've seen death records where the soldier died from being shot in the toe or finger. Conditions were beyond what we can even imagine these days. Oh, why am I not waiting until the 1st of July to go? Anyone who's ever been in Gettysburg that week won't ask that question. I like a much more relaxed battlefield. There are always tons of people, but early July is so much worse. I like sunset at Little Round Top and morning at Devil's Den... hurry up, tomorrow!
