This site is a great reference tool for Generals from all countries who participated in WW2.

Steen Ammentorp from Denmark has done a marvellous job updating this website over many years and I recommend it to you.

The links pages at his site have some wonderful information: eg. http://france1940.free.fr/

    http://www.generals.dk/

    "About the project

This project attempts to create a biographical database, which covers the army generals of all participating countries of the Second World War. At the moment the database contains 17653 short biographical sketches of the army generals of World War 2.
However, taking into account the scope of the project, the information on each general will vary in detail. Some generals have only been identified and listed with their last names, while others are listed with full names and sketches of their military careers. I am engaged in the quest for further biographical information on the generals and as a result there will be continual updates.
To find information on a specific general use the Search function or just click on The Generals and then choose the country of origin.
I hope that you will find this a useful reference tool."

    Best Regards
    Steen Ammentorp, Librarian DB., M.L.I.Sc.

Rodolfo Marquis, Marshal of Italy, Graziani (1882 – 1955)

When Italy declared war on June 10, 1940 against Britain and France, the British position in North Africa seemed hopelessly outmatched. UK Army General Percival Wavell commanded 40,000 Dominion soldiers caught between 200,000 Italian troops in Libya and 250,000 to the south in Ethiopia and Somaliland.

Wavell sent 30,000 troops on December 9 under UK Army General Richard O’Connor to reclaim Sidi Barrani, Egypt, 65 miles inside Egypt’s border with Libya. The Italians had heavily fortified the town, but the British caught them by surprise and took 20,000 prisoners. The enterprising O’Connor then turned the large-scale raid into a full-scale invasion of Libya, taking more prisoners and occupying Tobruk , Benghazi, and the whole of the Libyan province of Cyrenaica. 130,000 Italian prisoners march towards Egypt.

Col. General Dietloff von Arnim, the Prussian Commander in Chief of the Axis forces in North Africa, has been captured. In all, 150,000 POWs were taken since May 5, when the final assaults on Tunis and Bizerte began. This brings to 400,000 the total of Axis prisoners taken since the North African campaign.

General George Smith Patton Jr. GCB, KBE (November 11, 1885 – December 21, 1945)

    View attachment 565

General George Smith Patton Jr. GCB, KBE (November 11, 1885 – December 21, 1945)
was a leading U.S. Army general in World War II in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, France, and Germany, 1943–1945. In World War I he was a senior commander of the new tank corps and saw action in France. After the war he was an advocate of armored warfare but was reassigned to the cavalry. In World War II he commanded major units of North Africa, Sicily, and the European Theater of Operations. The popular image of "Old Blood and Guts" contrasts with historians' image of a brilliant military leader whose record was marred by insubordination and some periods of apparent instability.
