I may be in the minority, but the P38 Lightning is my favorite WWII aircraft. If there are any other fans of the airplane out there they might enjoy this.
In one occasion we went to the local air base, circa '77/'78, astonishingly we found that one Lightning is being taxiing into the tarmac for taking off. The whole group of mine, some five guys, took our hats off to say .... an unmatched legacy ... and it was last for me to see her in the air. One may recall that the fate of Yamamoto, decided by this Hibberd-Johnson made twin tails. A Luftwaffe pilot who surrendered near Tunisia, told several times ... der Gableschwanz Teufl ... by looking up at the sky!
