Lieut Marcellus Jones of 8th Illinois Cavalry which stationed at Chambersburg Pike, takes a shot first from a borrowed carbine by 7:30 am. I think it was the first shot that started the Battle of Gettysburg. By 1888, Jones erected a monument supported by own fund, still stands at Chambersburg Pike.
