    HAM.

    Private W A Ham, Motueka, Nelson, fatally wounded in the Suez Canal engagement 3rd February 1915, first of the NZEF to be killed in action.

    Private William Arthur Ham
    William Ham was killed when the New Zealand Infantry Brigade helped repulse a Turkish attack on the Suez Canal. According to his family he was the first New Zealand soldier killed in the First World War.
