    Sheer bloody rage would probably be very high up the list of reasons, I'd have thought.

    I remember when I first saw that photo that was the impression I had. I find it very difficult to judge their actions.

    There is a saying not usually associated with horrendous images like these.

    "You just had to be there" and we weren't!

    I think that's right, and important...those who compare it with the premeditated murders by the SS often forget that.

    From what I am aware, they were not prepared for what was going to be on the other side of the gate.
