The continual thumping of the gun line told the story. "Someone was in trouble!"

    The Battle of Long Tan

This week in particular 18th August marks the remembrance week for Australian troops in
Viet Nam it is also the 43rd anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan where 108 Aussies and 3 Kiwi Arty FO's ran in to approx 2000 to 2500+ NVA & VC. In a horrid tropical rain storm the only support were the guns at Nui Dat, Aussie, Kiwi and USA Guns mainly 105mm pack howitzers and some 155mm guns.
Aerial ammo resupply of ground troops was achieved by 9 squadron RAAF, and a urgent ammo resupply for the big guns was achieved by the USA "Hill climbers" Chinooks after dusk.

The D Company 6 Btn RAR was awarded a
USA Presidential Unit Citation for Gallantry, For extraordinary Heroism in Military Operations against a Armed Enemy.
Some Imperial military awards were awarded.
