    Australian Deaths in the RAAF/RAF. How did they occur? - Sierra Leone

    The reason for these threads is to have the official cause of death for these flyers if known, the number of the aircraft and to supply all detail and crew listings if available.

    Sgt. J W. Cullen RCAF +
    Sgt. D M. Nelson +
    Sgt. F. Browning +

    The undercarriage was retracted permaturely on take-off from RAF Hastings, Sierra Leone for Lagos. The aircraft sank back skidded on its belly into trees and caught fire. F/S. Simpson was killed outright and the three others died of their injuries on 16 August. All are buried in King Tom Cemetery, Sierra Leone.
