Remembered with honour LONE PINE MEMORIAL Alan Wallace was the son of the first Manager of the Devonport Gas Works. Attended Balliol College, Oxford where his name is on the Roll of Honour. As a 1912 Rhodes Scholar, he enlisted in the U.K. in the Engineers. Although Devonport-born his name is not on their Memorial. His brother, Bert, died in the Somme.
