[AWN 27.05.1915] In Memory of Serjeant ALAN WALLACE 4/72A, British Sect., New Zealand Engineers who died age 24 on 10 May 1915 Son of George and Florence Wallace, of Lake Rd., Devonport, Auckland. Remembered with honour LONE PINE MEMORIAL Alan Wallace was the son of the first Manager of the Devonport Gas Works. Attended Balliol College, Oxford where his name is on the Roll of Honour. As a 1912 Rhodes Scholar, he enlisted in the U.K. in the Engineers. Although Devonport-born his name is not on their Memorial. His brother, Bert, died in the Somme.
