Some years back, I read a fascinating, somewhat short, book entitled A Shield and a Hiding Place, by Gardiner H. Jr. Shattuck. What is covers is the religious beliefs commonly held during the Civil War, on both sides of the conflict. The impact of the Judeo-Christian faith cannot be underestimated in that time period, so it was a particularly illuminating read. Anyway, I just thought I'd pass it along. Cheers.
