What do you guys think about the current conflict in Eastern Ukraine? How much involvement do you think Russia has? They seem to at least be aiding them with weapons, and maybe also troops and tanks. And now with the separatists apparently downing the Malaysian civilian flight they have lost any credibility they might have had.

This is 100% Russia, I don't know with what aim, I want to believe that it was an accident, but at the same time what an unbelievable accident that shoots down a commercial plane... :(

I know this topic is a few months old, but it's still interesting how the conflict has evolved during these few months. I thought the Malaysian tragedy would propel the conflict into a larger-scale issue with more countries but it turned out to be a fiery display of force with no lasting impact. I am not trying to devalue the loss of human life in anyway, please don't think I am being insensitive.

Well, NATO has developed a task force and Putin has been saying that he can take Kiev when he wants, so it's cold war all over, not so cold anymore though.

This is entirely Russia's doing if you ask me. Most of this comes down to opinion as facts are very hard to know for sure. Each side will attempt to make their case stronger but I strongly believe that Russia can stop this at the drop of a hat. Putin just wants the oil... and the territory is just a bonus!

Not-so-Cold war seems like a great way to describe this ongoing conflict. It seems like no progress has been made by either side...

I still think the way the plane crash was handled was very disrespectful, especially given the circumstances of said shootdown.

No progress not exactly, Russia keeps on with it's invasion of Ukraine, what seems incredible to be happening in the 21st century...

I think Mitt Romney was pretty right on when he said Russia was our biggest geopolitical foe. They oppose us at practically every turn ,and in every situation around the world. They are usually on the side of evil, in all cases. Romney was derided at the time, but his observation was pretty spot on in hindsight.

I'm not saying that Russia isn't a bad country or what they do is wrong. I would just like to make the point that I don't particularly believe in the word "evil". I believe that whatever you fight for is right. There are many people labelled as "evil" but I just believe they have an entirely different view and what they are fighting for is right to them while our view is evil to them. So I don't really agree with you saying "They are usually on the side of evil" as that is just their viewpoint.

That's a bit silly. Hitler wasn't evil? Stalin wasn't evil? Radical Islamists aren't evil? I think they are all clearly evil, as what they were and are fighting for should appall decent human beings everywhere. Fighting for a just cause is okay. Fighting for the sole purpose of advocating white supremacy, communism, and Islam is indeed evil.

fascinating how after a few months this conflict has pretty much disappeared from the media, Russia took Ukraine as the international community allowed it.

People who commit hate crimes don't just believe in something. They're driven by hate.

I doubt this is a hate crime, this has economic interests all over, started in Crimea and followed by the whole Ukraine.

Russia seems to be getting away with whatever they want at this point. The United States and the "international community" doesn't seem to be doing a whole heck of a lot. This administration is weak when it comes to foreign affairs. No one takes them seriously as they never back up their rhetoric with actions.

Yep, the Russian made their move and they won, basically the conquered Ukraine and the world did nothing to stop them.

Yes, that is basically what happened. Peninha. It's utterly depressing. American weakness does nothing but invite aggression from the bad actors across the globe. Hopefully the next president we elect if one who is strong and who projects American power throughout the world to deter our enemies.
