This is just a piece of memory from the Philippines during WWII

This is an un-circulated emergency war chit used in Culion, Palawan, where victims of leper were isolated. When Japanese forces arrived there, All of the notes were ordered to be burned due to sanitary reasons, very few survived, making this a very rare item.

Well, I've never seen one of these. I assume that this Leper Colony no longer exists?

Yep it does not exist anymore. It has been shut down later on because the leper cure has already been discovered.

A rare item indeed! Culion became a municipality in 1999. It's no longer a leper colony. :)
