    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Gordon, William Roland Elphinstone MC played for Scotland

    Internationals: 3 : 1913 F+ (2t) W- I+

    Willam Gordon was born on 22 January 1893, son of George Dalrymple Gordon and Georgina Meredith Gordon, of “Alwyns” Teignmouth, South Devon.

    Played as a Centre for: King’s School Canterbury, Royal Military Academy Woolwich, Royal Artillery, The Army

    Profession: The Army

    War service: Major, “C” Battery, 251st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. MC Gazetted 3 June 1918.

    He died of wounds on 30 August 1918, and is buried in Valours Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France [Grave VIII. B. 3.].
