I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada...so this story is close to home...

Three men who were awarded the Victoria Cross...unfortunately two posthumously. All three lived on the same Street in Winnipeg, then known as Pine Street.
CORPORAL LEO CLARKE won for his heroics in the trenches during the battle of the Somme.
SERGEANT-MAJOR FREDERICK WILLIAM HALL was awarded the V.C. for giving his life to save a comrade at the battle of Ypres.
LIEUTENANT ROBERT SHANKLAND led his men to a forward position which they held during a fierce counter-attack at the battle of Passchendaele.

Pine Street was renamed in 1925 to Valour Road in their honour.

Hello J.J. Capstone Road in Bournemouth, Dorset has two V.C. winners to its credit. Can you tell me how many houses would have been on Pine Street around 1918? Thanks Regards. Morten
