Gareth Hinam, Sidney played for Wales Internationals: 5 : 1925 I- ; 1926 E= S- I+ F+ Sidney Hinam was born on 29 August 1898 at Blaina. Played as a Flanker/lock for: Cardiff Profession: Railway employee/Police. Remarks: Joined the Rugby League (Rochdale Hornets RLFC) in 1926. War service: Royal Field Artillery Died: n/k
He played for Glamorgan County and was also in the Cardiff side that met the 1924/25 All Blacks. He then switched to rugby league in September, 1926.
He was a Policeman in the Glamorgan force and was based at Cadoxton, near Barry, when he was playing for Cardiff. He played 96 games for Cardiff between 1921/22 season and 1925/26. scoring 16 tries. He was awarded his club cap in his second season. He joined Cardiff from the local GWR club, who played in the Cardiff and District Union. His son, Vernon, played at scrum half in three first-team matches for Cardiff in the 1951/52 season and gained his second XV cap. He then rejoined his former club, Llandaff North.
I was with Sid on two occasions not long before he died in Marcross Rd Ely Cardiff in 1982 He was emplyed in wartime in airfield security in Southern England and played rugby union under an assumed name at a low level. He always said that if he died he wished it to be whilst talking about rugby.
