    Hello,
My grandfather Herbert Rees Blake was with RFC during WW1. He lived in London and was a photographer.
We have a photo of him in his uniform and a couple of others of a parade. When I look for his service history on Ancestry all they have is his time with The 1st Gloucester Rifles 1904-1908. National Archives have no record either. Any ideas?

    Hi Pink Ling,

It sounds as if his record was destroyed during the blitz on London during WW2. Nearly 80% of army records were destroyed when the National Records Office was hit. As the RFC was part of the army until 1918 when the RAF was born his records would of been with the rest of the army records in the NRO.

    Hi Kbak
    Many thanks for the link.
Will try and order from them tomorrow and hope that it is not his service from 1904-1908.
    regards,

    Hi Pink ling

    My pleasure

It should be his RFC/RAF Records as the info comes from Reference: AIR 79/842/92830 not the army ones

    regards

    Keith
