    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    René Lasserre was born on 9 October 1895, in Bayonne

    Played as a Full back/fly half/centre for: Bayonne, Cognac, Grenoble

    Profession: Cognac works

    War service: Said to be a pilot in the Aviation Militaire

    He died c1950

    His final two appearances were with the French team at the 1924 Olympic Games. France beat Romania but then lost to the US inthe final. He therefore picked up an Olymic silver medal.
