Many people ask what the Royal Navy was doing during 1942 due to a lack of activity against the Japanese. As usual the Mediterranean sea was viewed as a side show with nothing more than a few skirmishes taking place. Operation Pedestal "the convoy that saved Malta" was the most heavily defended convoy of the war, it had to be, it sailed straight into the mouth of the Lion, straight in the belly of the "beast". This is what the Royal Navy was up to in 1942. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Pedestal
