Buster "Deep down 'ere in'nit Chief?!"

I am a retired Submariner, I have served a couple of years on General service on HMS Fife and HMS Abdiel, I then volunteered for the Submarine service and really started to enjoy my naval career.
I served on HMS Ocelot (Very briefly - sadly)
HMS Conqueror (for about 18 months - During a refit!)
HMS Warspite (for about 7 years, loved that boat)
Then I was conscripted to Bombers and did a very brief stint on HMS Vanguard then a 3 year draft to HMS Victorious.

I finished up my career in the Trident Training Facility up in sunny Faslane, which included three years as a Full Time Reservist.

I then left the navy and started working for Thales training & Simulation, and I have the very enviable task of looking after the 'V' class submarine, control room simulator, which is an incredibly authentic full motion simulator. Actually just a superb fairground ride - for 8 people!

So, I have had a great naval career and I am very fortunate to have moved into a great career in 'Civvy Street'.

I also find it quite refreshing that there is a multitude of ages and backgrounds on here, sharing the interest in this subject and all of it's technical and emotional intricacies.. Well done you lot! :D

    Welcome Buster,
I too like the demographics on this site.
The members knowledge is extensive, but they are not overbearing in the way they share.
Some websites make you feel as if you need a Masters to join, there are some good people here.

Welcome Buster and thank you for the run down on your interesting career.

I have always been fascinated by submariners since watching The US television series "Silent Service" in the late 50's which was based on fact.

DeForest Kelly Dr "Bones" McCoy of Star Trek fame was a Lt Commander in one episode that I remember.

They used the USS Sawfish as a backdrop for the series. (I looked that one up)

Hopefully you have some good stories to relate in the Barracks section of the forum.

    That's OK Heidi,
    It can be confusing:
    Royal Navy=RN
    Royal Australian Navy=RAN
    Her Majesty's Ship=HMS
    Her Majesty's Australian Ship=HMAS.

Welcome Buster and thanks for your efforts so far. Shame you didn't get longer on the Ocelot. Have a soft spot for that class as we had a few down here. Three of the six still survive although one is set in the ground as though running on the surface. One was even offered on Ebay recently - just down the road from me!
