Can anyone let me know if the ‘Footballers Battalion’ played any games together and where and when would Fred Keener have been injured.

    Frederick Charles Keenor
    Born: Cardiff 21 July, 1894
    Died: Cardiff 19 October 1972

Fred is famous for being the captain of the Cardiff City side that took the FA Cup out of England for the first, and only, time in 1927. He played 369 times for Cardiff City, played in the 1925 and 1927 FA Cup finals and was in the side that ended as runners-up in the Football League Division 1 in 1924, losing the title on goal difference. He played 32 times for Wales and also played in the two Victory Internationals in 1919.
After 19 years at Cardiff City he moved to Crewe, notching another 116 league appearances before seeing out his days as player-manager at Oswestry Town and then Tunbridge Wells.
He won six Welsh Cup winners medals with Cardiff and was a losing finalist once. He also played in the first schoolboy international between England and Wales in 1907.
He led Wales to the Home International Championship title in 1924 and was renowned for his strong leadership skills.
Having turned professional in 1913, at the outbreak of war he joined the ‘Footballers Battalion’ (17th Middlesex) and was twice wounded in action.
