More memorials for Darwin's war heritage - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

The Northern Territory will have two new ways to honour war time veterans as part of a $340,000 federal funding package.

Submarine buoys used to protect Darwin Harbour in World War Two will be restored by students at Darwin High School.

And a Memorial Service will be held at the Darwin Cenotaph to commemorate the Vietnam War battles of Coral and Balmoral.

The Federal Veterans Affairs Minister Alan Griffin says the memorials are important to remember the role Northern Australia has played in the nation's military history.

"Certainly there is no doubt when you talk about the history of Australia at war and Australia in war, the battle for Australia and the bombing of Darwin and the activities in Northern Australia are central part of our heritage."
