A good idea as far as it goes, provided he backs it up by providing more than just good PR. Decent hospitals, proper counselling, generous care for disabled servicemen, decent combat equipment to minimise the need for the foregoing, to say nothing about being responsible as to where they send the troops to fight in the first place. Otherwise, an Armed Forces Day will seem pretty hollow. Another news article pointed out that the government can now be sued for not providing adequate equipment to the troops. That sounds good to me - providing it doesn't get to the point where a commander can be sued for sending troops into battle. Risk Assessment? Its what management would suggest today, but good generals have always assessed the risks.
