My Belgian grandfather was wounded rescuing someone while serving in Belgian infantry and was awarded the Croix De Guerre. How can I find out more details of his citation.

Yes, this is helpful, thank you. However I was hoping to get specifics of his citation. I have only family folk-lore (and the medal) but our folk-lore has been wrong on other issues. Regards Janet

Francois Abdon Van Mechelen. private Begian Artillary. born Montenaken, about 1893.
The fabled "family folklore" is that he carried a wounded colleague (his officer?) back from behind enemy lines while himself wounded (in the leg/ankle)
