No other battle of the Great War could compare with Le Hamel for rapidity, brevity and completeness of success - it was all over in 93 minutes. http://www.ambafrance-au.org/spip.php?article531
Just like my signature states! Monash IIRC was the only Commonwealth General to command American troops. When did he choose to use them? July 4th no less. Monash is credited with using everything at his disposal, Troops, Tanks, Aircraft, Artillery, planned down to last detail and made known to everyone down the chain of command including junior officers to win a battle. While he is known to be a brilliant General there are those that denigrate him or refuse to give him that mantle. One thread I was involved in on another forum, accused him of using ideas from other people. If that be true, he goes up in my estimations even further as the way he used them to success brought results and saved lives.
If I may, I would like to attend the forum members on my special photo impression about the battlefields of the Australians in 1918 at Villers Bretonneux and le Hamel, click HERE. Thanks for your visit!
Thank you for the link Pierre. Well done! German casualties from what I have read were about 2,000 with about 1,600 prisoners. Someone may be able to confirm further.
