Could anyone tell me any information on the AIF Australian Port Detachment Unit Middle East 1942-1943.It changed its name to 2/1 Australian Movement and Transport L of C unit when it returned to Australia, It has a grey border green over red rectangle color patch.
My Grandfather Alfred Robert Henkel was in it in 1942 ,I've been told that it was absorbed into a bigger unit but know one can tell me which one.
In his belongings we also have a Northampton shire metal badge, we know it was his but we don't know how it fits together in his history. He had told us that he was on loan to the British army also . We know he went behind enemy lines somewhere between 8/10/1942 - 11/12/1942 when he returned to Australia
If anyone has any information on either Alfred Henkel or the Unit or the Northampton shire badge I would love to hear from them
