It's not original, but I always enjoy spending a little time at Antietam's Dunker Church. One time I even saw a wedding on the grounds with the bride, groom, and attendants all in Civil War period clothing. It was like going back in time! I say it's not original because there was a storm in the 1920s that totally flattened the church. Fortunately someone kept the original bricks and stored them until it could be rebuilt. I've thought that the furniture/benches were original but the park service says it's not, so that's disappointing. Dunker Church (German Baptist Brethren) was used as a hospital during the battle... a truce was called for the other side to come and pick up and bury their dead.
Have you visited the "New Jerusalem" sect chapel in St. Paul, MN? I understand it is pre-statehood, meaning it is pre-ACW. How does the Dunker Church compare?
No, I haven't been to Minnesota... and I've not heard of this place. Actually I tried to search for it and one of the top mentions is your reply right here on the forum... so if you have a link, it sounds like something I'd like to check into!
