As most know, the Axis in Europe in general, and the German military in particular, utilized quite a few foreign volunteers in their armies. They came from all over the continent (e.g., The Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, etc.). My question, however, is related to their experience after D-Day when things started to look particularly grim for the Axis Powers. I've read, though I can't seem to locate much in the way of detail, that there were foreign volunteers on Germany's side during the Battle of the Bulge. Anyone know of accounts written from that perspective? How loyal were the various units? Did some make an attempt to get home? I know some fought on for ideological reasons, but I'm not sure how pervasive it was. Thanks for sharing.
