To be honest I've only ever watched Captain America on film with the First Avenger, Winter Soldier and the Avengers franchise but I admire the way he was depicted especially during WWII. He's a super soldier with a heart of gold, an excellent strategist and leader and he seems beaming with patriotism-- definitely someone to aspire to. I suppose I have Jack Kirby to thank. Who are other fictional war heroes that you admire?

I have to admit one of my guilty pleasures is enjoying the old Combat! series from the 1960s. The late Vic Morrow as Sgt. Saunders, Rick Jason as Lt. Hanley, Pierre Jalbert as Caje, Jack Hogan as Kirby, etc., generally, made great performances. The show also had a number of guest stars like Dennis Hopper, Leonard Nimoy, Beau Bridges, Robert Duvall, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Mickey Rooney, Dean Stockwell, and many others.

In case anyone is interested, many of the series can be seen here for free. Cheers.
