The film 'Apocalypse Now' was set during the Vietnam War. Francis Ford Coppola, the director has said it's was based on an updated version of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness which revolved around imperialist unrest in Africa. I personally have only seen the film once many years ago with my father but the violence and realism of it really struck me. It was a tragically beautiful portrait of the human condition. What are your thought about the film? Have you read Heart of Darkness?
Apocalypse Now is one of my favorite movies, it showed the wide differences of the various forces fighting in Viet Nam.

Long back, in the Vietnam War section members exchanged their views nicely and if not viewd, please see it. '' .... When I was here, I wanted to be there. When I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle. I'm now here a week now and am waiting for a mission .... '' just h i l a r i o u s ! Ford also attracted me.
I think I have to see it again. It was a very long time ago that I saw it, and i don't think I could appreciate it then, but after reading all these posts about it, I think it deserves another look.
It is a classic master piece and one of the best movies in Hollywood history. There is a line that connects two conflicts in the movie and it was amazingly done. The physical conflict and the mental one. The brutal and realistic scenes of violence are probably something that will never be achieved considering the time and technology. Even if we do not consider it. It has a hellish atmosphere in most parts in Vietnam, especially the river scene. I cannot say that i like too many movies from Hollywood like this one.
