Recently the Cenotaph has been used for many tributes. VE day was on May 8th, which was also quite historic and unusual as it was the day after the general election and all the party leaders had to be on their best behavior.

In the UK when the Queen lays the wreath, the news covers it live and all other stories are put on hold. I used to go past the Cenotaph everyday as it was on my bus route and it is a sacred place, especially at night when there are no tourists taking photos.

If you do visit London, go at night when no one else is around and when the traffic is quieter so you can actually see the Cenotaph properly.
