Being new to this forum, I am still learning all the discussion areas. It seems as though there is an excellent selection of discussion forums for modern American conflicts. I especially look forward to discussing the Civil War and World War II on this forum.

Is there any interest in older military conflict? In part of my undergraduate work, I studied the history of Great Britain, beginning with the days before the Roman conquest. I am also interested in the Punic Wars, among others, and hope to see a thread or forum devoted to ancient conflict. I look forward to all of the discussions here!

Hello and welcome. I, too, would like to expand the discussion to broader topics. Recently I posted a query regarding the Battle of Lepanto (1571) but was met mostly with the stoney sound of crickets. It is hard to get these armchair historians interested in topics before the nineteenth century.

May I ask that reveal more of your scholastic background? Where did you study History? From your picture I might suspect the American South.

Were you ever in military service? If so, which and when?

I answered part of your question in another post, but to complete the thought, I earned a B.A. in history from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee (USA). I also hold master's degrees in education, Christian ministry, and Biblical studies, as well as the Master of Divinity degree.

As an aside, my profile picture was taken at an Atlanta Braves baseball game. I have followed the Braves since I was a young boy, watching them on television with my grandfather. I lost him in 1997 to cancer, but I continue to follow the Braves.

Thank you for the link to archive.org. I have perused their site in the past doing other research and look forward to sorting through the information I find there.

I suppose I should devote more time to more modern conflicts, but for whatever reason, I have always had a fascination with conflict which occurred before the widespread use of the gun in battle. It seems much more difficult to conquer an enemy using spears, arrows, and swords than it is to use guns, cannons, and bombs. To each his own, I suppose!
