Hello all. The title pretty much says it. Does anyone have recommendations for reading on the East African Campaign. It was, largely, fought between Italy and the British Empire and various Free forces. Any title suggestions would be great. Thank you.
Do not read books myself. However, here are some of the official despatches from the era and theatre (and others) click on pdf box: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/UN/UK/londongazette.html Ignore the scanstyle information box: http://dsearch.dtic.mil/search?site...=200&filter=0&getfields=*&btnG.x=13&btnG.y=13
Though an important part of the WW2, oftenly overlooked in the military history! However, a good stuff been provided by those links, worth to study too.
Thank you very much for the links, Alexander. They both contain quite a bit of material to sift through.
Alan Moorehead's (Australian War Correspondent) "Desert War Trilogy" is superb, first hand account (first book includes East African Campaign) although not a full a military blow by blow account - you will enjoy it.
The only title I can contribute concerns one man's experience with the clearing of the seaport in Eritrea (then northern Ethiopia). It was "Under the Red Sea Sun". Little on military matters, more on port recovery. The port was inportant for it had a drydock capable of restoring damaged vessels up to cruisser size. This was important for the east Mediterranian campaign.
Thank you both for the recommendations. I am searching on them on Amazon now. I appreciate the assistance. Would the Desert War Trilogy be the best starting point for an overview and then go a bit deeper with the more specific texts?
